The highly anticipated series, LA BREA, is finally out and Jack Martin wows us with his performance in just the first episode! A series that kicks into high gear within the first five minutes, you are left on the edge of your seat impatiently awaiting the next episode! Here at BELLO, we sat down with Jack to learn more about his entry into the world of film and television, his experience on the show, and what makes him, him! Full of charm and character, there is no doubt he is on the move to success!

Growing up, what role did film/television play in your life?

I’ve been a huge film and TV fan my whole life, pretty much every genre from comedies like Nathan For You and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia to dramas like The Sopranos and Breaking Bad. I loved some of these shows so much I wrote an essay on them for English class in High School – was a little out of the box but I had fun.

Was there a particular show or movie that made you want to become an actor? Explain.

I’ve always been big on Leo DiCaprio, especially in his younger days – his performance in Titanic is so legendary it’s the only movie I have downloaded on my phone. There’s something inspiring to me about actors who can both deliver a quality, nuanced character performance that is also relatable enough that everyone can see and connect to it.

You star in the upcoming series LA BREA. Can you tell us a bit more about your role in the show?

LA BREA starts with a massive sinkhole in LA splitting a family in half, and my role is Josh Harris, the 17-year old son in that family. It’s such an exciting character because 17 is a very pivotal age and he’s forced to grow up on an extremely accelerated timeline in circumstances that are, to say the least, bizarre.

Why did you audition for it originally? In what ways did the show match or even exceed your expectations?

I’ve always been a fan of action and sci fi – I loved Heroes, Lost, and The Walking Dead, to name a few, and this show combines elements of all of those. I always say it’s Lost meets Stranger Things. Working on the show itself blew me away. All of these massive set pieces you see in the show are real – the giant destroyed buildings, mountains, burning cars, and more.

What scene stood out to you during the filming process?

I don’t want to give anything away, but there’s a scene where I have to leap across a giant hole. I was hooked to a harness and had to grab onto a hanging rope ladder in midair with one hand and proceed to climb up it. Being able to do stunts like that was an unreal experience.

You have also gained momentum on TikTok! In what ways did that experience prep you for LA BREA?

I got so comfortable with performing and with the idea of lots of people seeing me do it because of Tiktok. I’ve done a lot of comedy skits with my friends and that got me in the groove of performing with others as a group. It honestly prepared me a lot more than I thought it would.

Tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know.

I went to college to study political science with the hopes I’d go into a career in politics and changed my mind after the first semester. This is obviously a big shift from that but I have no regrets.

What does beauty mean to you?

It’s all about being true to yourself. When someone is honest with themselves and others about who they are you can feel it just by looking at them. Having that feeling of being real is beautiful to experience on a personal level and it’s beautiful for other people to see too.

Do you think you have found your goal/purpose in life?

Absolutely – I’m so sure that acting is my purpose and I look back at those sliding door moments that almost prevented this from happening and it makes me really grateful. I know how much actors I look up to impacted my life, and to think that I could do the same for anyone fuels me every day.

Where do you want to go next?

I love doing the crazy, big budget action that you’ll see on La Brea and would love to do more of that and of that genre in general. Outside of that, I still really enjoy doing comedy and would love to explore that area. As long as I get to perform and create content people enjoy, I’ll be happy.
