After nearly four years, Jewel is returning to the music scene with a heartfelt ballad titled “No More Tears.” Jewel wrote the song for the upcoming documentary Lost In America, an in depth look at the issue of homeless youth in the country. The documentary, which will hit select theaters in 2020, will highlight concerns like sex trafficking, the failure of the foster care system, and the rejection of LGBTQ youth. In addition to songwriting for the powerful feature, Jewel is serving as an executive producer alongside Halle Berry and former homeless youth director, Rotimi Rainwater.
Jewel shares, “It’s been a tremendous honor to be an Executive Producer and to work on this film, Lost in America. It is a subject that is so dear to my heart. I was homeless for a year when I was 18 –I started living in my car because a boss withheld my pay check when I refused his sexual advances. When my car got stolen things got more difficult from there. The issue of homeless youth is important, misunderstood and overlooked. I was so moved as I was working on this film, that I was inspired to write a song for the youth I came to know through the process. It was a transformative experience to see the film come together and to write this song and be able to record it. It’s all of our jobs to make sure that there are no more youth that are lost in America.”
“No More Tears” is only the beginning of Jewel’s massive comeback year, and it so happens to be the 25th anniversary of her iconic Pieces of You album. The album had one of the best-selling debuts of all time. Before she was a multi platinum recording artist, Jewel journeyed from growing up in Alaska with no running water to facing homelessness as a teen in San Diego. Her incredible feat led her to a 20 year career earning her Grammy nominations and an American Music Award and MTV Music Award. Her latest venture is founding her own imprint label “Words Matter Media,” and linked with The Orchard, she is hard at work in the studio preparing to release her next studio album. Jewel has accomplished being a singer, songwriter, actress, author, mother, and advocate, and her latest single is the start of something new. Listen to “No More Tears” out now.
