We all have been there, searching endlessly through a closet or dresser full of clothing, and none of it, literally none of it, is appealing to us that day. We try on different outfit combinations, seemingly over and over, and they don’t fit quite right; we don’t feel as confident as we usually do; the look is dated. Whatever the reasons are that wind you up in a position of hating virtually every clothing item you own, there are ways to make getting dressed every day easier. One such method is adopting a minimalist wardrobe, sometimes referred to as a capsule wardrobe. Let’s take a look at some reasons that a minimalist wardrobe could not only work for you sartorially but other benefits of the capsule way of dressing as well.
Quality Versus Quantity
We’ve all heard the phrase “Quality Over Quantity” so many times pertaining to many aspects of life and living. And, as most adages tend to be, there is a lot of truth in this statement. The thing is – when you own quality (luxury) items, you’re not only more likely to love and be invested in them, they’re going to flatter you more than their cheaper counterparts. Because of this, they will become your “go-to’s” every day while dressing. So, what if your entire wardrobe consisted only of the higher-end items? Getting dressed would be a breeze, and you’d feel confident and chic no matter what you’re wearing. Add to this, and you wouldn’t feel overwhelmed and frustrated by the number of choices because unless you have an unlimited budget, you’re not going to own as many items. Consider investing in some key pieces like Chanel shoes or a pair of lux sunglasses to get you motivated to pare down on your more expensive accessories. You’ll be surprised (or maybe not) at how easy it is to let go of your fast fashion items as you accumulate quality, high-end pieces.
Benefits the Planet
Speaking of fast fashion, if you didn’t already know, the fast fashion industry has a massive and negative impact on our climate change crisis. Not only are the dyes used in the products harmful to the environment surrounding them, but they also contribute to a myriad of health issues for the workers handling them. Add to that the number of emissions the factories cause. Then all of the factors are compounded by the fuel and emissions it takes to transport such large amounts of fast fashion to their retail destinations worldwide. And, when it’s all said and done because those items don’t last long, they widely end up in landfills. It’s a vicious cycle that you can help break by adopting a more minimalist and luxurious wardrobe.
Inspires Other Aspects Of Your Life
When you adopt minimalism in certain parts of your life, it tends to have a trickling effect of bleeding through to other parts of your way of living. Some minimalists end up retiring early because they become more frugal after a couple of months of years consuming less. Living this way allows them funds to invest. That money makes money, and suddenly you’re retiring at 45. Maybe it inspires you to eat a healthier way, and less stuff leads to fewer ingredients in the food you use to nourish your body. You may soon end up shopping for vegan handbags and shoes. There are so many positive impacts adopting a life of minimalism can have on your life, and for all of us into fashion, what better place to start than with what we’re wearing?
Not For Everyone
It should be noted; however, that minimalism isn’t a sustainable lifestyle choice for a lot of people – and there is nothing wrong with that! If you love a closet brimming with options and need more than one jewelry box to hold all your favorite accessories, you go! Maximalism has its place in fashion, too, and it is fabulous. Don’t feel pressured to go with trends or buzzwords just because many of your peers are doing it. Chances are if you’re a confirmed fashionista, you’re already marching to the beat of your own drum, and that’s what it’s all about!
