The entire experience has been wonderful… From fighting demons to time travel, every day is an adventure. The cast and crew have been so welcoming and slotted me into their little family right away.
I’m incredibly proud of what the new showrunners and Kaela’s character have brought to the series and I think people will very much enjoy what we’ve created over the past 6 months. It’s very different from the first 3 seasons.
Prior to the first day of shooting, what were you most excited about? Anxious about?
Seeing as I hadn’t worked for 5 months due to covid, I think I was most excited about being back in a fast-paced environment, adapting to a new routine, and having a fresh creative outlet.
Like on any first day, the nerves were inevitable – I just really wanted to do a good job and make a strong entry as Kaela.
How did you prep for your role? Any advice you learned while filming? Explain.
I think most actors can agree that a crucial part of prepping for any role is immense self-care; spending a little extra time doing things for ourselves that we are not able to do while in the midst of a busy work schedule. When I make extra time for self-care, I feel good, and when I feel good, I am more empathetic and in touch with mine my characters and my own emotions – it’s simple really – our physical, mental, and spiritual health is priority.
In terms of Kaela, I keep things like playlists and fake social media accounts that hold only content she would be into based on her experiences. These things help me quickly get into the mindset of my character when I need a little extra assistance.
Tell us more about your character and her powers.
Kaela is a bold, chaotic, unapologetic but super loving and down-to-earth street artist from Philly. She has endured some major adversities that have tested her faith in the universe but ultimately made her the perfect new addition to the Vera sisters’ family unit.
Kaela is a conjurer – she can make her artwork come to life; while she must spend some time mastering this, it comes to be a gift that is especially useful to the Charmed Ones.
Kaela brings such beautiful, fresh energy to the show and I’m so excited to share her with the world – I’m enamored by her journey and growth throughout the season.
Who was your superhero growing up?
My Mum. She’s the coolest woman I know. A real-life superhero.
Share with us your other upcoming projects. What do you love about each of them?
Blacksite is an action-thriller written by Jinder Ho and directed by Sophia Banks. “The film centers around officers in a labyrinthic top-secret CIA black site who must fight for their lives in a cat-and-mouse game against, Hatchet, a brilliant and infamous high-value detainee who escapes capture and begins picking them off one-by-one.”
I’m thrilled to be part of Sophia Banks’s feature directorial debut; Herself and the other female cast Michelle Monoghan and Pallavi Sharda were truly inspirational to work with and watch as women in the industry. (Also, I got to play British which we love.) Blacksite will have its theatrical release on the 3rd of May 2022.
Sissy is an Australian comedic horror that explores the way our presence on social media affects our psyche. I may be biased but I believe Hannah Barlow and Kane Senes created a gripping, exhilarating film from beginning to end. The film shows perhaps some of the most gruesome practical effects I have ever seen, done by Larry Van Duynhoven. The film had its premiere at SXSW, is going to a few more festivals, and will have its theatrical release in October 2022.
If you were given three wishes, what would they be and why?
- End war???? Like, I think that goes without saying…
- Free health care, education, food, and clean water for everyone.
- Eradicate racism and hey, just say goodbye to all forms of prejudice and discrimination, period.
Something most people do not know about you.
I love to make music. I’ve stayed quiet about it as its very close to my heart and I’m a perfectionist, but I do plan on releasing some stuff very very soon 😉 stand by y’all.
Plans for the rest of 2022.
Drink plenty of water and take it one day at a time.
