Sometimes, it happens to miss our ex…Even when we are beginning a new relationship. It feels wrong and tricky but Cameron Hardy reminds us, through his release “Perfume,” that it is okay…As an artist, he has truly found his love and passion in writing songs! Of course, just like many things in life, it can take time and work but in the end, well, it was worth it. Excited to keep diving into the creative world, we can expect to see great things from Cameron Hardy!

Share with us the story behind “Perfume.” How did the song evolve? What does it mean to you?

“Perfume” was a concept I really wanted to bring to life. It’s about being in a new relationship and navigating the feeling of missing your ex. I co-wrote it with Delacey in my first writing session ever. It means the world to me.

What are some obstacles you faced while writing it? What came easily?

Writing the song itself came pretty naturally. The production is where I had to really dive in and figure things out. I’ve been sitting on this song for 3 years, so there are many versions of it. I’m so happy with how it turned out.

There is also a music video with it. How did that creative process go? How did you envision the video?

I worked with director Jackie Kulla on the video. She’s such a dope and inspiring creative. I wanted it to be vibe-y but still tell a story, so that’s what we did. I hope everyone loves it just as much as I do.

As an artist, what do you believe your purpose is?

I want to make people feel something. At the end of the day, that’s why I make music.

Share with us the first song/performance you ever did. Describe to us the scene. What were you feeling? In what ways have you grown since then?

I used to release YouTube covers as a kid all the time. It wasn’t until I started writing my own music that I really saw the growth in who I am as an artist. It opened up an entire new world and I got to really dive deep into figuring out my sound, image, etc. It’s the best feeling in the world, especially once I became comfortable and confident in who I am.

When you aren’t working, what do you like to do in your spare time?

I have some of the best friends in the world so I’m usually hanging out with them and just enjoying life.

What gets you hyped in life? Lights the fire within?

I just love finding different creative things that I’m passionate about. There’s something really exhilarating about collaborating with other people that really hypes me up.

Biggest goal in life?

I would love to play the Staples Center. I think that will be my “I made it” moment.
