Creative Minds: Tijana Vukovic

Tijana Vukovic, is an amazing Photographer, with a great eye for creative direction, and a very nice approach to the art of photography. We had a pleasure chatting with her recently and here are some bits of it.

Q: Share with us the story of how your career as a photographer began.

A: My professional career started even during my studies. I was always drawn to the history of arts and to photography as an art form in general.

Q: Do you recall your first project ever? How have you grown since then?

A: One of my first bigger projects was a campaign for hair color products. I still remember how I felt about the responsibility and about the success of the project. I was especially proud as I was the youngest person on the whole set.

Q: What is the city that inspires you the most?

A: LA is a city full of unlimited opportunities, at one moment you can be at the beach, and in just a few hours you can go skiing. All the leading campaigns have been done here.

Q: Where do you draw your inspiration from? Favorite type of photo to take?

A: My inspiration comes from the beauty around me, the charm of history and its impact on everyday life, and from exploring the world and meeting new cultures. You can say that my “trademarks” are close-up photos and portraits.

Q: Who are some publications you have worked with?

A: So far I have had the privilege to work with big magazines like Elle, Harper’s Bazaar, Cosmopolitan, GQ, L’Officiel, Esquire, Vulkan, Bello, etc.

Q: Can you please share with us one of the amazing stories you have had since becoming a photographer?

A: While working for leading magazines in the USA, I had a chance to work with a lot of creative people who inspired me with their lives and their work. Some of the names I can mention are The Weekend and Sonam Kapoor. I cherish those experiences, and will always hold those stories close to my heart.

Q: Growing up, what was your family like? Were there any signs that you would pursue photography? Explain.

A: As far as my family goes, I always had the support to do what I do. I inherited my love for art from my mom and my organizational skills from my dad, which makes me really grateful. As a teenager, I had a chance to be on the other side of the lens, and as soon I saw how the photographer owned that room and how creative the whole project was, I made the decision that it will be my calling in life.

Q: Tell us more about some of your favorite projects and what makes them so special.

A: One of the lovely experiences I would like to mention is the photo shoot for one billboard, and 20 people were in the photo. I had the responsibility to organize every detail, from location to lighting, castings, stylist, makeup, props, and everything that includes the composition and the execution of the project. It was super busy, fun, and kinda chaotic:). That’s always a fun challenge!

Q: Do you believe you have found your true inspiration?

A: My inspiration comes from the beauty around me, the charm of history and its impact on everyday life, and from exploring the world and meeting new cultures. There is nothing more inspiring, engaging, or exciting than that “eye to eye” contact. It is truly an intimate experience that helps me to capture the beauty of that moment.

Q: What do you hope to accomplish both in your career and personal life?

A: My goal is to open a gallery where I could help young artists. I also have plans for a coffee table book.
