Grammy Award-winning singer songwriter Alessia Cara released her latest single, “Ready,” a reggae-inspired lament about an excruciating relationship. The single precedes the release of her latest EP, This Summer, on September 6–the same day she wrapped up her opening gig on fellow Canadian pop star Shawn Mendes’s current tour. If this song is any indication for the direction the EP will go, Cara fans are in for a treat. She stays true to the witty, utterly relatable lyricism reminiscent of pre-1989 Taylor Swift that characterized Cara’s first album Know it All. Cara combines her wordsmithing with a catchy, strong chorus bookended with smooth verses reminiscent of the summer she references with the title of the EP. Cara’s signature jazzy vocals contribute to the groovy feel of the single, adding an interesting layer to the reggae instrumentals. This intriguing blend of musical genres contributes to her refreshingly unique sound, setting her as an example of creativity and innovation in pop music.
In addition to releasing this summery single, Cara also announced her US headlining tour The Pains of Growing Tour, which begins in Boston, MA on October 21st and runs for 18 shows. Ontario born singer-songwriter Ryland James will be opening for Cara. Shows are sure to please due to Cara’s exquisite ability to perform live–her live vocals are almost indiscernible from the vocals on her records, demonstrating her natural talent.
