In the studio or on stage, Loren Allred brings passion and fire to her audience through her lyrics, melodies, and incredible presence. Her music fills you up as it travels through your body and out your fingertips, allowing you to feel every emotion running through you. Describe to us what you feel when you are singing. What is running through your mind? Do you feel yourself transported? Grounded?

The feeling I get when I’m singing on stage is very different than when I’m in the studio. On stage, I feel completely transported, especially if I am in good voice and prepared; it’s an out of body experience. When I’m in the studio, I am very focused and I have to channel a lot of inner emotion.

Share with us the story behind your upcoming single “Your Girl.” What inspired you to write it? What does it mean to you?

I think everyone has an idea of the kind of person they want to end up with in life, and then suddenly you meet someone who doesn’t check all the boxes but the chemistry is undeniable.. it makes you want to throw away all of the preconceived notions and jump in. This was a song for someone I believed was still stuck on what he wanted on paper 😉

The song is beautiful. What was it like putting it together? Who did you work with?

I wrote this song during quarantine with my producer, Seul in Brooklyn. I was dealing with a lot of emotions from my past relationship and this was a playful way to express what I was feeling inside even though it was painful.

Tell us a story of a recording day that had a strong impact on you. 

I remember a day in particular when I was hired to record female reference vocals for The Greatest Showman. I wasn’t sure exactly what I was called to do that day, but the director and songwriters, Pasek and Paul sat me down and gave me the news that they would be using my vocals for the actress, Rebecca Ferguson in the film. It didn’t feel real until I was sitting in the theater for the screening of the movie and finally saw the scene where “we” sing the song, Never Enough. This opportunity changed my life. 

What are some stepping stones in your life that helped you get to where you are today?

When I was 19 and a student at Berklee College of Music in Boston, I started to post YouTube covers from the school practice rooms. This was the beginning of people covering songs on YouTube so I really just wanted to see what kind of feedback I could get. I didn’t expect it to bring me any opportunities. A member of Ne-Yo’s team happened to see one of my videos and I then ended up leaving school and signing with a record label soon afterwards. It was my first introduction to the music industry and I learned a lot from that experience.

If you could go back to your teenage years, what advice would you give yourself about life?

What makes you different is what people will love and appreciate about you in adulthood; it’s what makes you unique. Don’t internalize what people think about you as your whole identity. They are still finding themselves too.

Who has played an important role in your life?

My mom has taught me so much about kindness, grace, and unconditional love.

If you could go back to any decade, which would you pick and why?

I love mid-century furniture and design, so from an antiquing perspective, I would love to teleport back then and hoard some furniture!

What do you miss most about pre-COVID-19?

I miss going out dancing with friends in Brooklyn and seeing live music! Traveling was a big part of my life pre-covid and there are restaurants and favorite sights in other countries that I’ve been dying to visit again. 

Where do you hope to go with your music career?

I would love to be recognized for songwriting one day and of course, every singer dreams of winning a Grammy! I also have a bucket list of producers and writers that I would love to collaborate with.  I’m just looking forward to creating more music that I am passionate about and sharing it with the world!
